The latest feature implemented by Facebook is the possibility to share whether you are an organ donor which hopefully will save lives once more and more people start using it. The biggest social networking website in the world, with currently more than 900 million users, is now allowing users from the United States and United Kingdom to write a life story on their personal Facebook accounts, offering a link where users have the possibility to sign up for the official organ donation services for their respective region.

In the United States of America, there are more than 114,000 residents that are waiting for organ donations, according to the data published by the Department of Health. It seems that an average of 18 people per day are dying due to the reason that there aren’t enough organs.

Only several hours after Facebook made this announcement, the Donate Life California registry saw a whopping 800% increase in the organ donor registrations, which can only be a good thing if we take into consideration that there are so many people waiting for a liver, kidney or heart transplant all over the world.

According to ZDNet, Facebook plans on introducing this organ donor feature to other countries as well in the months to come.
